FAQs

What's your soap made of?
My soaps are made with a blend of oils & butters (olive, coconut, shea, and castor), tallow, lye, and a variety of natural coloring agents (like clays and herbal powders), and essential oils or phthalate-free fragrances.

What is tallow? Why do you use tallow in your soaps?
Tallow is my secret weapon! Tallow is a form of rendered beef fat. I use tallow because I am able to obtain it locally, which makes it a sustainable and extremely eco-friendly ingredient. In addition, tallow is a waste product in the meat industry, which means when I use it, it's being diverted from the landfill. Finally, tallow is chemically similar to human fat which makes it an excellent moisturizer.

Do you have any soap without lye?
No! By definition, soap is made with lye--if it doesn't have lye, it's not soap. In soapmaking, lye chemically reacts with fats to result in soap.

Are your products palm-free?
Yes! As part of our sustainability efforts, we are a proudly palm-free company.

Do you have soap for eczema or sensitive skin?
Yes! All of our soaps are gentle on any skin type, but "The GOAT" is specifically formulated for eczema. Check it out here!

How long will my bar of soap last?
Your soap's longevity depends on a wide variety of factors, like frequency of use, the water chemistry of your home, and care. As a general rule, you can expect your soap to last 4-8 weeks in the shower, or longer at the sink. To help your soap last as long as possible, allow your soap to drain and dry between uses.

Are Pahvant Valley Soaps all natural?
"Natural" is a tricky word that is not regulated by the FDA, so it can mean different things to different people. Many of my soaps contain what I would consider all-natural ingredients, but some include lab-made fragrances (listed in the ingredients as "phthalate-free fragrance oil". While the fragrances I use are phthalate- and paraben-free, I do not consider them natural. If naturalness is an important factor in your soap-buying decisions, be sure to read the ingredients lists carefully.

What is your return policy?

Do you take wholesale, bulk, or custom orders?
